Monklands Women’s Aid and Cumbernauld and District Women’s Aid Unite to Strengthen Support for Women and Children
Statement from: Monklands Women’s Aid and Cumbernauld and District Women's Aid
Monklands Women’s Aid (MKWA) and Cumbernauld and District Women's Aid (CADWA) are together delighted to announce an exciting new chapter for specialist Women’s Aid services supporting women, children, and young people in Airdrie, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, and the surrounding areas.
We are pleased to have reorganised and consolidated our trusted, compassionate, and integrated specialist Women’s Aid services so that there will now be a single organisation delivering across the areas we have both been serving. Monklands Women's Aid will take on this role from the 1st of April 2025. This positive development ensures seamless continuity of care while strengthening trauma-responsive services tailored to the unique needs of women, children, and young people across our communities.
Rooted in feminist principles, specialist Women’s Aid services are grassroots, single-sex spaces developed and led by women for women, with a core focus on safety, empowerment, and recovery.
Through this reorganisation, we are committed to improving service provision and benefiting from the economies of scale by enhancing refuge accommodation, broadening outreach support, and increasing access to crisis services—ensuring the evolving needs of women, children, and young people are met as effectively as possible.
Both organisations are privileged to have highly committed, professional and skilled staff teams and are fully engaged in the process of forming a single new team with a continued passion for our work.
All service users can expect the same warm, respectful, and confidential support because every woman deserves to feel safe, supported, and understood. Our sole focus remains on addressing violence against women and providing dedicated support to women and children affected by it.
